THE FIELD GUIDE

2048 · A guide to play

A little understanding makes the next move clearer.

01 / Goal & rules

  1. Slide a 4×4 board in one direction. Equal neighboring tiles merge, but a tile merges at most once in a move.
  2. A new 2 or 4 appears only after a move changes the board. Blocked directions do not add a move.
  3. Reach 2048 to win, with an option to continue. Play ends when the board is full and no merge is possible in any direction.

02 / Controls & guided practice

  1. Use arrow keys, WASD, swipe the board or tap direction buttons.
  2. Merging 2+2 adds 4 points; 4+4 adds 8. Several merges may happen in one move.

Choose Learn by doing above to try coached moves on a real practice board. Your current game is preserved; tutorial results are never recorded.

03 / How scoring works

  1. Score is the sum of all newly merged tile values, capped at 1,000,000 for display and records.

Time is informational and is not part of this score formula. Scores are derived from game state; different games use different scales.

04 / A thought for your next move

  1. Try keeping the largest tile in a chosen corner.
  2. Keep empty space and avoid trapping small tiles beside large ones.

Good to know

Does the guided lesson affect my records?

No. Try this move uses a separate practice board, excluded from records, daily completion and rankings. Your current round is preserved.

How do daily and practice modes differ?

Daily boards are shared for the same game and difficulty, resetting at midnight in Korea. Practice lets you start fresh boards.
