Korean Monthly Withholding Is Not Your Final Annual Tax
A payslip deduction and an annual-tax estimate divided by twelve answer different questions. This case follows a Korean regular-salary comparison, not another country’s payroll rules or a prediction of your annual refund.
Case: one salary, two different tax estimates
A fictional employee checks taxable monthly pay of 3,500,000 KRW, four qualifying family members including themself and two eligible children. This is not annual gross pay or the final annual taxable base. Household headcount alone does not establish allowance eligibility.
1. Match the payment date and taxable pay
Select a payment date within the salary check’s July–December 2026 scope. Gross regular pay less qualifying exempt pay must equal the case’s taxable monthly pay. Do not deduct exemptions twice from an already taxable amount. Do not force a bonus or adjustment payment into a regular-pay case.
2. Compare the two tax lines separately
Match the family, child and withholding-percentage settings, then enter income tax and local income tax separately. Leave an unknown amount blank; enter zero only for an actual zero deduction. A total deduction or bank deposit includes other items and does not belong in an income-tax field.
3. Interpret a match or difference
A match concerns those two monthly lines under your inputs. A difference is actual minus expected, not a finding of employer error or a refund entitlement. Check payment date, taxable/exempt pay, family and children, selected percentage, then adjustments, reliefs and bonus exceptions in that order.
4. Keep the annual settlement question separate
Monthly withholding is collected in advance at payroll. Annual settlement reconciles annual income, applicable deductions and tax already paid. Correct monthly withholding does not rule out an annual refund or additional tax. The existing annual-salary tool’s monthly average and the new table-based check are not interchangeable answers.
Questions to take to payroll and limits
Ask payroll to confirm the payment-date basis, taxable pay, eligible family/children, percentage and separate adjustments. You need not submit identities or an original payslip to this site. The check does not validate insurance, total take-home pay or final annual tax, and is not professional tax advice.
