Reference Rates & Actual Exchange Quotes
A currency conversion is an estimate for comparison, not a promise of what a bank will pay. A bank’s buy/sell spread or card-settlement rate can differ from a published reference rate.
Read the rate date
ECB reference rates are normally published on working days. A weekend or holiday can show the previous publication date. Opening a page today does not make its underlying rate today’s rate.
A fee example
At an illustrative manual rate of 1.10, an amount of 100 converts to 110. A 2% proportional charge leaves 107.80. A fixed charge or bank spread changes this result further.
Using a manual quote
Enter a rate supplied by your bank if you want to compare a particular quote. Check whether fees are already included so you do not subtract them twice. When a lookup fails, do not treat an older result as newly fetched.
