Formula & assumptions
Select a measurement category before choosing units. Length, weight, volume and area use fixed conversion factors. Temperature uses an offset as well as a scale factor. The height mode accepts feet and inches as separate inputs, or centimeters. US liquid gallons and fluid ounces are kept distinct from Imperial measures. Ounces under Weight mean mass, not fluid ounces.
Worked example
180 cm is approximately 70.86614173 inches, or 5 ft 10.8661 in. One US liquid gallon is 3.785411784 litres; one Imperial gallon is 4.54609 litres. A temperature of 32°F is 0°C.
How to use this calculator
- Choose the type of measurement and the source and target units.
- Enter the value. For feet-and-inches height, fill both components.
- Read the converted value and formula; check whether a volume unit is US or Imperial.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert cups of flour to grams?
No. That requires an ingredient-specific density and a definition of cup size, not a fixed unit factor.
Why are US and Imperial gallons different?
They are different definitions. Choose the system specified by your source instead of treating gallons as one universal unit.
What is the lowest supported temperature?
Absolute zero: −273.15°C, −459.67°F or 0 K. Lower temperatures are rejected.
