Find Missing Items in Two Excel Columns
Compare identifiers from two spreadsheet columns without uploading a workbook. Copy the columns and decide which one is the reference.
Paste a column instead of a workbook
Copy the data in one column, leaving out the header. Rows become newline-separated entries. Paste the reference column in A and the column to check in B.
The tool does not read workbook files or multiple columns. Pasting a name and identifier together compares the entire line, so the same identifier with another name can look different.
Find the missing reference entry
Sample A
00123 00456 00456
Sample B
00456 00789
| Group | Entries | Interpretation with A as reference |
|---|---|---|
| Common | 00456 | Present in both |
| A only | 00123 | Missing from B |
| B only | 00789 | Additional entry not in A |
The repeated 00456 in A is deduplicated before comparison. This is an identifier comparison, not a stock-quantity aggregation.
Leading zeros and matching options
00123 and 123 are different strings. The tool does not convert identifiers to numbers, but it cannot restore zeros already removed by Excel. Prepare the original cells as text.
Ignore surrounding whitespace is selected by default. Choose ignore letter case only if that fits your identifiers. Common entries keep the first spelling from List A.
Excel CSV uses an apostrophe prefix to protect text identifiers. Use a result group’s copy button when you need a plain text list.
If results look unexpected
Check for a copied header or extra columns first. Then check whitespace, case options and the reference list. Matching is exact; similar identifiers and typos are not guessed or merged.
Examples use fictional inputs. Tool inputs are processed in your browser.
